Here's the comment that Dan/dave put on my video
"It's a move Tom Wolf published in the 60's. Jim Steranko also published a similar move in Steranko on Cards in the same decade."

That's all i know about it...I checked all my books, and i can't find it myself.
Hope that helped a bit

this is were it al started , and dbSQUERED told him this "It's actually a move by Tom Wolf published in the 60's. Jim Steranko also published a similar move in Steranko on Cards in the same decade.

The Ego change was published in Great Magic decades ago.

If you want to give back to the magic community, get your facts straight and please credit. Otherwise, there's there's no contribution, just exposure."

and i would like to find more information about it and i can not find the book .
thanks

Almost correct but not quite. George Pugh's Pass (Ego Change) didn't make it into the original Greater Magic. It did, however, make it into the 1994 Kaufmann and Greenberg reprint where it was published.

Technically, the first place I can find where this move was actually published was in a little book called, "Tricks for the Few", in 1933. There will be a pretty complete history on my current DVD that Dan and Dave are releasing.

Best,

Dorian Rhodell

As far as the printed record can tell, yes it is.

Here's something I wrote to him that Dan Buck posted. Enjoy.

"Here's some history on George Pughe’s Pass by our good friend Dorian Rhodell

Quote:
George Pughe’s Pass can be found on pg. 1053 of the 1994 edition of Greater Magic (The Kaufmann & Greenberg reprint). It is described in a letter to John Northern Hilliard dated January 21, 1933, where it described as being a one card version of the Houdini-Elliot Shift. It was originally used to control a selection to the top of the deck.

In the same year (1933), a very similar move appeared in print in a book entitled, Tricks for the Few pgs. 8-9 under the title, “Passing up the Pass”.

Steranko was the first to publish the move as more than just a control. His applications and ideas were published under the title of, “Shadow Steal” in his book, Steranko on Cards (1960).

The mechanics of this sleight are also found in “The Rooklyn Top Palm” which can be found on pg. 161 of Dai Vernon’s Ultimate Secrets of Card Magic.

Ray Kosby also independently invented the move along with others such as Oliver Macia and Daniel Garcia. Ray Kosby published “The Coffin Change” on pg. 45 of Spectacle by Stephen Minch in 1990. Oliver Macia’s independent invention is called the “Wow Control” and can be found on his DVD entitled, Control Freak. Daniel Garcia’s handling is named the “Ego Change” and can be found of The Daniel Garcia Project, Volume 1.

Keep an eye our for Dorian's new DVD, available next month."

Cheers,
dan
